Descripción
Pontejos is a small locality in the municipality of Marina de Cudeyo, in Cantabria, situated on the southern shore of the Santander bay. Like Somo on the northern shore, Pontejos has a ferry connection to Santander city across the bay, providing pilgrims with an alternative water crossing into the city.
The setting on the sheltered inner bay shore gives Pontejos a calmer, more enclosed character than the exposed Atlantic-facing coastal villages. The salt marsh and tidal flat terrain of the inner bay provide a distinctive wetland landscape at the village edge.
For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte taking the southern shore route, the Pontejos ferry is an alternative to the Somo crossing and represents the final stage before arriving in Santander.
