Description
Población de Campos is a small municipality in the province of Palencia, Castilla y León, situated on the Canal de Castilla towpath on the Camino Frances between Frómista and Carrión de los Condes. The village has a compact character with the Romanesque hermitage of the True Cross, a small chapel of notable antiquity.
The surrounding landscape is the Tierra de Campos in its characteristic form: flat wheat plain, wide sky, and the geometric line of the canal cutting through the agricultural patchwork. The canal towpath route, lined with poplars, provides a sheltered and pleasant walking surface.
For pilgrims, Población de Campos is a passage point on the canal stage, its Romanesque hermitage providing a brief moment of architectural interest on an otherwise agricultural stretch.
