Description

Edit

Playa de La Espasa is a beach in the municipality of Caravia, in Asturias, situated on the Atlantic coast between Ribadesella and Colunga. The beach is a sandy arc backed by coastal vegetation and dunes, framed by the limestone cliff terrain characteristic of this stretch of the Asturian coast.

The surrounding coastal geology includes the same karst limestone formations visible throughout the Ribadesella-Colunga corridor, with sea stacks, tidal platforms, and the exposed cliff profiles created by Atlantic erosion. The beach itself is one of the longer sandy stretches in this otherwise rocky coastline section.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, La Espasa falls on the coastal path section between Berbes and La Isla, in a stretch of the route that offers some of the most scenically dramatic clifftop and beach passages of the Asturian coast.
