Description

Edit

Piñera is a small locality in western Asturias, its name deriving from piñeiro or pera, suggesting pear tree cultivation or pine woodland on the local terrain. The settlement has a dispersed rural character in the enclosed green valley landscape typical of the western Asturian coast hinterland.

The surrounding terrain combines the humid Atlantic pasture and mixed woodland of the western Asturian valleys with the occasional orchard or cultivated hillside plot. For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, Piñera is a quiet passage point in the rural interior sections between the estuarine crossings of the Navia corridor.
