Description

Edit

Pedreña is a small locality in the municipality of Marina de Cudeyo, in Cantabria, situated on the southern shore of the Santander bay opposite the city. The village is best known as the birthplace of Severiano Ballesteros (1957-2011), one of the greatest golfers in the history of the sport and a five-time major champion. The Real Golf Club de Pedreña, where Ballesteros learned to play, occupies the bay shore beside the village.

The setting on the estuary shore gives Pedreña wide views across the bay toward the Santander peninsula and the open sea beyond. The village retains a traditional Cantabrian character alongside the golf heritage.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte taking the southern shore route, Pedreña is a distinctive waypoint connecting the sporting legacy of Ballesteros with the medieval pilgrimage tradition.
