Orbaneja Riopico

Orbaneja Riopico is a small locality in the municipality of Burgos, situated in the Arlanzón river valley on the Camino Frances approach to the city. The settlement is on the edge of the Burgos metropolitan area, where the rural character of the Arlanzón corridor gives way to the first industrial and residential development of the city’s outskirts.

The Arlanzón river provides a riverside path on the final approach to Burgos, with poplar and willow trees lining the banks before the urban fringe closes in. The route here transitions from the open farmland of the Atapuerca area to the urban environment of the Burgos approach.

For pilgrims, Orbaneja Riopico is a passage point on the city approach, notable for the riverside path and the gradual transition from rural Camino to the urban experience of Burgos.
