Olatz

Olatz is a small locality in the municipality of Mutriku or the adjacent interior area, in Gipuzkoa. It sits in the forested hill terrain inland from the Basque coast, on the section of the Camino del Norte that moves away from the cliff path to cross the interior valleys between Deba and Markina.

The locality has a traditional Basque rural character with a small chapel and dispersed farmsteads in the surrounding green valley. The landscape here is the enclosed, intensely green terrain of the Basque interior, with beech and oak woodland on the steeper slopes and meadow and maize cultivation in the valley bottoms.
