Martiñan de Abaixo

Martiñán de Abaixo is a small locality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino del Norte inland route between Mondoñedo and Villalba. The de Abaixo designation indicates the lower of two settlements sharing the Martiñán name, positioned on the descending slope toward the valley.

The setting is the green enclosed hill terrain of the Lugo interior, with traditional Galician stone farmhouses, hórreo granaries, and the mixed oak and eucalyptus woodland that covers the steeper slopes. The route through Martiñán de Abaixo descends toward the Villalba basin, one of the main service stops on this inland section of the Camino del Norte.
