Maariz

Maariz is a small locality in the municipality of Mondoñedo, in the province of Lugo, Galicia, situated in the valley terrain on the outskirts of the Mondoñedo basin. The settlement has a quiet agricultural character in the enclosed green Galician interior, with the typical combination of pasture, mixed woodland, and stone farmhouses.

The locality falls on the Camino del Norte route in the area around Mondoñedo, either on the approach to or departure from the historic episcopal city. The surrounding terrain is the humid Atlantic valley mosaic of the Lugo interior, where the route passes through a succession of small Galician communities between the principal historic stops.
