Description

Edit

Lanhelas is a civil parish in the municipality of Caminha, in the Viana do Castelo district. It occupies elevated terrain above the Minho valley, on the inland route between Caminha and Valença. The parish has a traditional Minho agricultural character, with granite stone farmhouses, terrace walls, and the vine cultivation typical of the lower Minho slopes.

The elevated position gives views across the Minho valley toward Galicia on the opposite bank, and the landscape has the terraced, vine-covered quality characteristic of this part of the district. The terrain here is more hilly than the coastal parishes to the west, with enclosed valleys and the granite ridge terrain of the Minho interior.

On the Camino Português inland variant, Lanhelas is a waypoint between the Caminha river crossing and the fortified town of Valença.
