Description

Edit

Isla is a small coastal locality in the municipality of Arnuero, in Cantabria, situated on the Bay of Biscay coast between the Joyel estuary and the coastal terrain approaching Santander. The village has a traditional fishing and seaside character, with a small sandy beach and a compact settlement on the headland above.

The surrounding coastline alternates between sandy bays and rocky headlands, with the open Atlantic to the north and the enclosed valleys of the Cantabrian hinterland behind. The Camino del Norte coastal route passes through or near Isla on the section heading toward Galizano and Somo.

The name simply means island, possibly referring to a promontory or near-island formation in the local coastal topography.
