Irotz

Irotz is a small hamlet in the municipality of Esteríbar, Navarra, situated on the Arga river a few kilometres north of Pamplona. The village lies at a point where the river bends sharply, and a small stone bridge spans the Arga here on the approach toward the village of Zabaldica.

The surrounding terrain is the transitional zone between the open Navarrese countryside and the approaching suburbs of Pamplona, with the valley still retaining an agricultural character but the city beginning to make its presence felt. Traditional Navarrese stone farmhouses line the main path through the hamlet.

For pilgrims, Irotz falls in the final section of the stage approaching Pamplona, where the anticipation of the city begins to mix with the pastoral character of the Arga valley.
