Description
Casconha is a small locality in the municipality of Condeixa-a-Nova, in the Coimbra district. It occupies forested hillside terrain on the descent from the limestone plateau toward the Mondego river basin and the outskirts of Coimbra. The name may derive from a local geographic or family name.
The settlement is modest and dispersed, set in a landscape of pine, eucalyptus, and scrub with patches of cultivated land. The terrain continues to descend here toward the flat plain of the Mondego, and the cityscape of Coimbra begins to appear in the middle distance.
On the Camino Português, Casconha is a transitional passage point between the rural interior and the growing suburban fringe of Coimbra.
