Campo

Campo is a small hamlet in the province of León, Castilla y León, situated on the flat Bierzo plain on the Camino Frances between Molinaseca and Ponferrada. The settlement occupies the valley floor terrain, the flat agricultural land contrasting with the mountain stages above.

The surrounding landscape is the Bierzo basin: a broad valley ringed by mountains, the floor cultivated with vegetables, fruit, and wine grapes. Poplar plantations provide windbreaks and visual texture on the otherwise open plain.

For pilgrims, Campo is a passage point on the final approach to Ponferrada, the large industrial and historic city that dominates the western Bierzo.
