Descripción
Biduedo is a small locality in the municipality of Triacastela, Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Frances at the beginning of the descent from the high mountain ridge toward Triacastela. The name derives from bidueiro, the Galician word for birch tree, indicating that silver birches once defined the local woodland.
The hamlet marks a landscape transition: the open heather moorland of the high ridge gives way to birch and oak woodland as the path descends, and the enclosed green quality of lower Galicia begins to reassert itself. The traditional stone farmhouses here have the solid, slate-roofed character of Galician mountain construction.
For pilgrims, Biduedo signals the beginning of the long descent toward the first major Galician valley town of Triacastela.
