Description
Arzúa is a municipality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, and the largest town on the Camino Frances in A Coruña province after Melide. The town is the junction where the Camino del Norte, arriving from the coastal north, joins the Camino Frances for the final shared stages to Santiago.
Arzúa is celebrated for the Arzúa-Ulloa cheese, a Denominación de Origen Protegida product made from the milk of the local Rubia Galega cattle. The soft, creamy cheese is sold throughout the town and at markets, and the local dairy farming culture is visible in the surrounding green pastures. The church of Santiago and a small museum provide additional cultural reference points.
For pilgrims, Arzúa is a full-service town marking the arrival of the Camino del Norte contingent and the beginning of the truly final stages, with Santiago typically reached in two more days from this point.
