Description

Edit

A Ponte do Porco is a small locality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Inglés route approaching Betanzos. The name means the pig bridge, a toponym that records the livestock crossing tradition at this point, where pigs or other animals were driven across a stream on the way to market or between farmsteads.

The setting is the enclosed green valley terrain below the hills approaching Betanzos, where the stream crossing provided the functional identity for the settlement. The route through A Ponte do Porco descends toward the medieval town and its estuarine setting.
