Descripción
Villatuerta is a municipality in Navarra, situated on the Ega river a few kilometres before Estella on the Camino Frances. The village has a quiet agricultural character with the Romanesque hermitage of the Holy Sepulchre, a twelfth-century chapel associated with the Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
The hermitage has been restored and retains medieval carved details. The surrounding terrain transitions from the open plain to the riverside corridor of the Ega, with alder and poplar lining the banks on the approach to Estella.
For pilgrims, Villatuerta is effectively the immediate approach to Estella, with the town visible ahead and the Ega river providing a pleasant riverside entry.
