Valverde de la Virgen

Valverde de la Virgen is a municipality in the province of León, on the western suburban edge of the León metropolitan area on the Camino Frances southern route variant. The town is partially absorbed into the residential development around León but retains a degree of local identity.

The surrounding terrain is the transition zone between the León plain and the lower edge of the Páramo plateau, with the landscape shifting from urban fringe to the more open agricultural country of the Páramo approaches.

For pilgrims on the southern route variant, Valverde is a passage point on the approach to the Páramo plateau stages, its suburban character quickly replaced by the rural open country that characterises the route toward Villadangos del Páramo.
