San Martin del Camino

San Martín del Camino is a municipality in the province of León, on the Camino Frances at the foot of the Páramo plateau descent, beside the Canal de la Margen Izquierda del Orbigo. The village occupies the flat agricultural terrain at the transition between the plateau and the Orbigo river valley.

The canal, part of the Orbigo irrigation network, provides a distinctive linear feature in the landscape here, with its poplar-lined embankments contrasting with the open cereal fields. The village has a functional character with accommodation and services for the stage approaching Hospital de Orbigo.

For pilgrims, San Martín del Camino represents the completion of the Páramo plateau crossing and the beginning of the final approach to the legendary Orbigo bridge at Hospital de Orbigo.
