Description

Edit

San Cristóbal is a small locality in the municipality of Valdés, in Asturias, on the approach to Luarca. The dedication to Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travellers, is particularly resonant on the Camino del Norte, where the saint’s protection of those crossing rivers and difficult terrain was widely invoked by medieval pilgrims.

The settlement has a modest rural character in the coastal hinterland of western Asturias. The Christopher dedication, one of the most common saints’ names on pilgrimage routes, marks this as a traditional stopping point or votive site on the road network through this area.
