Description
Salceda is a municipality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Frances in the penultimate stage between Arzúa and O Pedrouzo. The name derives from salix, willow, indicating the presence of willow trees in the riparian zones around the settlement.
The village has a compact agricultural character in the green terrain of the final A Coruña stages, with alder and willow on the stream margins and oak and eucalyptus on the slopes. The route here passes through the pleasant enclosed landscape that characterises the final stages before the Santiago approach.
For pilgrims, Salceda is a passage point with basic services in the penultimate stage, the willow toponym a reminder of the abundant water and riparian vegetation that make this part of Galicia so green.
