Description
Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole is a commune in the Lozere department, situated at the foot of the Margeride plateau on the Limagnole river. The town is the first significant service stop in the Lozere after crossing the Margeride, and marks the transition from the high granite plateau to the lower and more enclosed valleys of the upper Truyere watershed.
The medieval castle and the Renaissance chateau are the principal architectural landmarks, the latter now housing part of a psychiatric facility. The surrounding landscape is the Lozere interior: forested ridges, cattle pasture, and the enclosed river valley terrain of the Gevaudan region.
