Redondela

Redondela is a municipality in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, situated at the head of the Vigo ría. The town is the meeting point of the Camino Português coastal variant and the main inland route, a convergence that gives it a lively pilgrim atmosphere.

Redondela is visually defined by its two large nineteenth-century iron railway viaducts that cross the valley above the town, carrying the Vigo-Pontevedra railway line. These structures, with their series of tall metal arches, are among the most striking industrial landmarks on the entire Camino Português route. The estuary below is dotted with bateas, the wooden raft platforms used for mussel and oyster cultivation in the Galician rías.

For pilgrims, Redondela marks the point where the route unifies before heading north through Pontevedra toward Padrón and Santiago.
