Descripción
Ponte Maceira is a small locality in the municipality of Negreira, in the province of A Coruña, Galicia. The village takes its name from its medieval stone bridge over the Tambre river, a five-arch structure whose construction is attributed to the medieval period, making it one of the better-preserved historic river crossings on the Camino de Fisterra route.
The bridge, the adjacent restored Galician hórreo granaries, and the water mills along the riverbank create one of the most visually cohesive historic ensembles on the Fisterra and Muxía routes. The Tambre flows through a wooded gorge at this point, and the combination of the stone bridge, the river, and the mill buildings gives the village a picturesque quality.
The village is a well-known rest stop with a café and a small pilgrim infrastructure, making it a natural pause on the long first day out of Santiago.
