Description

Edit

Pesues is a small locality in the municipality of Val de San Vicente, in Cantabria, situated near the mouth of the Nansa river at the administrative boundary between Cantabria and Asturias. The village is among the last Cantabrian localities before the route crosses the Nansa bridge at Unquera into the Asturian municipality of Ribadedeva.

The setting at the Nansa estuary mouth gives the locality an estuarine character, with the tidal river, salt marsh, and the low hills flanking the estuary defining the landscape. The crossing from Cantabria into Asturias at this point is one of the symbolic transitions of the Camino del Norte.

For pilgrims, Pesues is effectively the doorstep of Asturias, with the bridge crossing at Unquera marking the regional boundary.
