Descripción
Moledo do Minho is a civil parish in the municipality of Caminha, in the Viana do Castelo district, situated on the Atlantic coast at the southern edge of the Minho river mouth. The long sandy beach of Moledo stretches southward from the river estuary, with the Atlantic to the west and the broad mouth of the Minho opening to the north.
Above the beach, the clifftop Forte de Lagarteira, a small coastal fortification, occupies the headland overlooking the meeting of the river and the sea. The estuary views here are wide and dramatic, with the Galician coast and the town of A Guarda visible across the water.
For pilgrims on the coastal Camino Português, Moledo is one of the final Portuguese stages before the Minho crossing into Caminha and Spain.
