Lezama

Lezama is a municipality in the province of Bizkaia in the Basque Country, situated on the plateau between the interior ridges and the metropolitan area of Bilbao. The municipality is known as the home of Athletic Club Bilbao’s training ground, Lezama, which has been the development base for the club’s players since 1971 and is closely associated with the Basque football identity.

The village itself has an agricultural and residential character, with open farmland on the plateau and the enclosed green quality typical of Bizkaia. The surrounding hills are forested, and the terrain begins to show the first signs of the urban influence of Bilbao approaching from the west.

On the Camino del Norte, Lezama is the last rural municipality before the route enters the Bilbao metropolitan area.
