Description
Lavadoira is a small locality in the municipality of Allande, in Asturias, on the Camino Primitivo route descending toward Pola de Allande. The name means washing place or lavoir, referring to the communal stone washing basin where local women once washed clothing, a feature common in rural Galician and Asturian communities before running water was widely available.
The communal lavoir was a social as well as functional space, and its presence as a place name records a domestic and community-oriented aspect of the rural economy. The surrounding terrain is the lower mountain descent toward the Allande valley floor, with oak woodland and pasture on the sheltered slopes.
