Description
La Isla is a small locality in the municipality of Caravia, in Asturias, situated on the coastal clifftop terrain between La Espasa and Colunga. The name refers to a small rocky island or islet formation visible offshore from the coastline, a limestone rock isolated by the sea that gives the locality its identity.
The surrounding terrain is the Asturian limestone coast karst landscape, with the dramatic cliff and sea stack formations of the Caravia area. The coastal path through La Isla offers wide Atlantic views and close-up perspectives on the karst coastal geology.
For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, La Isla is a waypoint on the coastal clifftop section heading toward Colunga, in a stretch of the route with exceptional geological interest.
