Description
La Acebosa is a small locality in the municipality of Val de San Vicente, in Cantabria, situated in the inland valley terrain south of San Vicente de la Barquera. The name derives from acebo, the Spanish word for holly, with the suffix indicating a place covered with or defined by holly trees. Holly woodland is typical of the humid Atlantic forests of the Cantabrian interior.
The settlement occupies the enclosed valley landscape west of the Bío estuary, with green meadows, mixed woodland, and the traditional stone farmhouses of the area. The surrounding hills carry the holly, oak, and chestnut woodland characteristic of the sheltered Cantabrian valleys.
The Camino del Norte passes through or near La Acebosa on the valley section heading westward from San Vicente de la Barquera toward Serdio and the approach to Unquera.
