Descripción
Islares is a small coastal locality in the municipality of Castro Urdiales, in Cantabria, situated on a sheltered cove between rocky headlands west of the town. The village has a traditional fishing character with a small beach accessible between the cliff formations.
The surrounding terrain is the exposed Cantabrian clifftop, with gorse and heather scrub on the headlands and the Bay of Biscay defining the northern horizon. The sheltered cove character of Islares contrasts with the more exposed cliff sections on either side.
The Camino del Norte passes through or near Islares on the coastal route between Castro Urdiales and Laredo, on a section that alternates between clifftop paths and sheltered cove villages.
