Description
Gonzar is a small municipality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Frances on the plateau above the Miño valley between Portomarin and Palas de Rei. The village has a compact stone character typical of the Galician plateau interior, with traditional farmhouses and an albergue operating from a restored stone building.
The surrounding landscape is the open plateau country of the Lugo interior, with rolling green farmland, scattered oak woodland, and the wide-skied character typical of this elevated section. The route here offers a more open and varied landscape than the enclosed valley stages below.
For pilgrims, Gonzar provides basic services on the long stage between Portomarin and Palas de Rei, the village character typical of the small farming communities that punctuate this plateau section.
