Esposende

Esposende is a town and municipality in the Braga district, situated on the north bank of the Cávado river where it meets the Atlantic coast. The town has a traditional fishing and maritime character, with the Forte de São João Baptista da Foz do Cávado, a small coastal fort, guarding the river mouth. The estuarine beach and the pine forest that borders the coastline northward are defining features of the local landscape.

The coastal Camino Português passes through Esposende on the section between the Cávado crossing and the long coastal path northward toward Viana do Castelo, making it a well-established pilgrim rest stop with full services.
