Canero

Canero is a small locality in the municipality of Valdés, in Asturias, situated in the valley of the Canero river. The watercourse and its valley give the locality its name and identity, with the stream flowing through a green enclosed valley before joining the larger watercourses of the area.

The Camino del Norte passes through or near Canero on the section between Luarca and the continuing western route. The valley terrain is the typical Asturian humid green landscape of pasture, woodland, and stone farmhouses, sheltered from the Atlantic winds by the surrounding ridges.
