Description
Cajarc is a commune in the Lot department, situated on a meander of the Lot river between the limestone cliffs and the flat alluvial valley floor. The village has a warm stone character typical of the Quercy, with market squares, medieval houses, and the riverside path along the Lot as its defining axis.
Cajarc has cultural associations with former French president Georges Pompidou, who had a connection to the village, and the contemporary art centre CAAM was established here in his memory. The Lot valley at this point is wide and luminous, with sunflower fields on the alluvial flats and the white causse cliffs above.
For pilgrims, Cajarc provides full services and marks the midpoint of the extended Lot valley crossing.
