Description
Brea is a small locality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Frances between Peruscallo and Ferreiros. The hamlet has a compact stone character in the green enclosed terrain of the Lugo interior.
The surrounding landscape has the characteristic Galician combination of oak woodland, eucalyptus plantation, and green pasture on the gently rolling terrain. The name Brea may relate to a pitch or tar-like substance, possibly a toponym recording the use of pine pitch in the area.
For pilgrims, Brea is a passage point on the pleasant stages between Sarria and Portomarin, the green character of the terrain providing a consistent pastoral experience.
