Branca

Branca is a parish in the municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha, in the Aveiro district. It occupies terrain that rises slightly from the lowland plain of the Vouga basin toward the more forested interior hills of the district. The name ‘Branca’ (white) may refer to a historical landmark, a family name of early settlers, or a local topographic or vegetation feature.

The village has a traditional layout with a parish church at its center, surrounded by stone residential buildings and agricultural outbuildings. Eucalyptus plantations cover much of the higher surrounding land, giving the landscape a tall, uniform forest character on the slopes.

Branca is one of the small parishes on the Camino Português route between Albergaria-a-Velha and Oliveira de Azeméis, contributing to a section of the walk defined by its alternation between forested hills and small village clearings.
