Description

Edit

Bandeira is a small parish in the municipality of Ponte de Lima, in the Viana do Castelo district. Its name means flag or banner, a toponym that in Portugal often marks a place associated with a boundary marker, a battle site, or a prominent landmark used for orientation. The elevated position of many villages named Bandeira supports the idea of a flag or signal post on a ridge.

The settlement sits on higher terrain above the Lima valley, where the landscape opens to wider views and the rugged character of the Serra d’Arga foothills begins to assert itself. Stone construction and traditional agricultural patterns continue in the local fabric.

Bandeira lies on or near the Camino Português route as it moves northward through the interior terrain toward the Spanish border crossing at Valença.
