Description

Edit

Ballota is a small coastal locality in the municipality of Cudillero, in Asturias, situated above a small sandy cove on the Atlantic coast. The beach at Ballota is known for the dinosaur footprint trackways preserved in the coastal limestone rock platform, visible at low tide, which are part of the broader Jurassic coastline heritage of western Asturias.

The cove is set between rocky limestone headlands, with the clifftop terrain above carrying the typical Asturian coastal scrub. The beach and rock platform have attracted geological interest for the quality of the prehistoric trackways preserved in the tidal zone.
