Areosa

Areosa is a civil parish in the municipality of Viana do Castelo, situated on the Atlantic clifftop coast north of the city. The parish occupies the rugged headland terrain where the limestone and granite cliffs of the northern Minho coast begin to assert themselves, with dramatic drops to the sea and wide Atlantic views.

The coastal path here follows the cliff edge through heath and scrub, making it one of the more scenically intense sections of the coastal Camino Português. The rocky shore below and the exposed clifftop habitat give Areosa a distinctive wild character compared to the beach and dune sections to the south.
