Description
A Lameira is a small locality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Inglés route. The name derives from lameiro, the Galician word for a wet meadow or boggy grassland, a terrain type common in the low-lying granite valleys of the Galician interior where poor drainage and the humid Atlantic climate create saturated soils that support specific plant communities.
Lameiro grasslands were traditionally managed for hay cutting, and their distinctive flora differs from the drier pastures of the hillsides. The toponym directly records the wet meadow character of the local valley floor terrain. The surrounding landscape has the enclosed green quality of the A Coruña interior.
