A Lagoa

A Lagoa is a small locality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the inland Camino route between O Mesón and Sobrado dos Monxes. The name means the lake or the pool, indicating that the settlement developed beside a notable body of standing water in the Galician interior. Plateau lakes and ponds are characteristic of the poorly drained granite terrain of the Galician meseta.

The standing water that gave the locality its name would have been a significant local resource and landmark in the rural landscape. The surrounding terrain is the rolling pastoral and forested plateau of the A Coruña interior, typical of the approach toward the Cistercian monastery of Sobrado dos Monxes.
