Vilei

Vilei is a small locality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Frances just west of Sarria. The hamlet has a compact stone farmhouse character in the enclosed green valley that begins immediately on the western edge of the town.

The transition from the Sarria urban environment to the rural Galician landscape is rapid here, with the path entering oak woodland and passing stone farmhouses and hórreo granaries within a short distance of the town centre. The lush enclosed quality of the Lugo valley interior reasserts itself quickly.

For pilgrims, Vilei is one of the first rural passages after Sarria, representing the return to the agricultural Galician landscape for those who began their walk in the town.
