Vilar de Cas

Vilar de Cas is a small locality in the municipality of Castroverde, in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Primitivo route between Castroverde and Lugo. The name combines vilar, the Galician variant of village or farmstead cluster, with de Cas, possibly a family name or a reference to houses (casas).

The surrounding terrain is the enclosed green valley landscape typical of the Lugo interior corridor, with dairy pasture, oak and eucalyptus woodland, and the traditional stone farmhouses with hórreos that characterise rural Galicia. The route through Vilar de Cas continues the gentle pastoral descent toward the Roman city of Lugo.
