Description
Terradillos de los Templarios is a municipality in the province of Palencia, Castilla y León, situated on the Camino Frances near the approximate midpoint of the route from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago. The village name preserves the memory of the Knights Templar who held land and a commandery here until their dissolution in the early fourteenth century.
The surrounding landscape is the flat Palencia Campos, with cereal fields and the wide sky that characterises the final stages of the Palencia section. The village has a compact stone character with the church of San Pedro and limited services.
For pilgrims, Terradillos is often cited as the geographic midpoint of the Camino Frances, a psychological landmark that many celebrate with a symbolic pause before the León stages ahead.
