Description

Edit

Sierra is a small locality in Cantabria, its name simply meaning ridge or mountain range, indicating that the settlement occupies elevated ridge terrain on the Cantabrian coast. The locality sits on the exposed clifftop or ridge above the Bay of Biscay on the section of the Camino del Norte between Cobreces and Comillas.

The surrounding terrain is the open Cantabrian coastal ridge environment: gorse and heather scrub on the exposed ground, green pasture in the sheltered hollows, and wide views over the Bay of Biscay to the north. The elevated position makes this one of the more panoramic sections of the route on this stretch.

For pilgrims, the Sierra locality represents the open clifftop terrain that characterises the Cantabrian Camino at its most atmospheric.
