Santovenia de Oca

Santovenia de Oca is a small hamlet in the province of Burgos, Castilla y León, situated in the valley below the Montes de Oca on the Camino Frances between San Juan de Ortega and Ages. The settlement has a compact stone character in the pastoral valley below the forest zone.

The surrounding terrain marks the descent from the Montes de Oca forest into the open valley landscape approaching Burgos. The transition from deep woodland to open meadow and cereal field is one of the characteristic sensory shifts of this stage.

For pilgrims, Santovenia de Oca is a passage point at the forest exit, with no services but the reward of open sky after the enclosed woodland path above.
