Description
San Xurso is a civil parish in the province of Lugo, Galicia, dedicated to Saint George, known in Galician as Xurxo or Xurso. Saint George is venerated across Iberia and has a strong tradition in Galicia, where his feast day on 23 April is observed. The parish occupies the enclosed green valley landscape of the Lugo interior.
The dragon motif associated with Saint George is one of the most visually powerful in Christian iconography and gives the locality a strong heraldic identity. The surrounding terrain has the typical Galician combination of dairy pasture, mixed woodland, and stone farmhouses.
