Description

Edit

Ribadeo is a town and municipality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, situated at the mouth of the Eo river estuary where it meets the Bay of Biscay. The town marks the entry into Galicia from Asturias on the Camino del Norte, and its estuary bridge crossing is one of the symbolic moments of the route.

The town has a compact historic centre with arcaded stone streets and the Torre de los Morenos, a distinctive early twentieth-century tower with a clock and neo-classical detailing that dominates the main square. The waterfront promenade along the estuary offers wide views across to the Asturian bank.

The Praia das Catedrais, a UNESCO-protected beach of cathedral-like rock arches accessible at low tide a few kilometres from the town, is one of the most photographed natural sites in Galicia, though it lies slightly off the direct Camino route.
